Geography

The 1st Semester for 7th graders is devoted to World Geography.  We work from the big to the small, starting with the general scientific principles of the science of geography (how latitude & longitude work and how season are defined on planet Earth).

Then we examine each continent by breaking the subject down into two categories; physical geography includes things like mountains, rivers, deserts, etc., and human geography explores basic history, language, religion, government, economies, etc.

When our tour of the inhabited continents is complete, we study U.S. and then Montana Geography.  There are a lot of maps to learn in this course and cramming is a poor way to learn them.  It is strongly recommended that maps are studied in short bursts over a longer periods of time rather than the night before the test.

The links on this page are a set of study maps, a set of general geography notes, and a slide show (the slide show is combined to include the entire semester's study but will be dealt with in individual units during the course of instruction).

The 2nd Semester is given to studying Montana/Belt, and Family histories.  Detailed information for those subjects is on the 7th Grade page on this web site.

***Even though 7th grade is the only class dedicated to geographic study it is integrated into every single class History Department course in middle and high school.  Students will get to enjoy map quizzes and tests throughout their academic career in Belt.
