Belt History Department
Government
Government class is a required course for all seniors. It differs from most of the history classes in that it is built around application of principles in our democracy. There are a total of 14 units of study related to government issues in the world, America, and Montana. Rather than a lecture format, most units of study consist of students creating a finished product like their own personal constitution, a political cartoon portfolio, and a variety of other works.
Material is presented in a politically neutral context (which is pretty tough these days), and students are challenged to defend their opinion. Respect for the opinions of others is critical in this process.
Students create an electronic portfolio of their work in the form of a published web site. Students can also earn a Belt High Honors credit for their work.
