Belt History Department
World History
In 6th grade we study World History, beginning with the earliest civilizations like: Egypt, China, India, and Mesopotamia. The focus is to develop historical thinking skills along with building the basics in gathering, organizing, evaluating and expressing information. World geography is also a big part of this course.
After looking at the ancient empires, we turn our attention to the study of Western Civilization be examining the three major periods of Western History: Antiquity, the Middle Ages, and Modern Times. We usually get through the French Revolution and Napoleonic Wars. This gives the students a good base in understanding the world in which they live.
As with all the history courses in Belt, academic writing is emphasized. The rubrics accessible from the home page of this site provide details on the expectations for student written work. Students also create an electronic portfolio of their year's study in the form of a published web site.
