Belt History Department
U.S. History
United States History is on the docket for high school juniors. This course of study covers the expanse of the American experience, starting in the days of colonization and continuing up to the present. The class is designed to give students a mature understanding of where our nation is now by developing an understanding of where we've been as a people; as Churchill once said, "The farther backward you can look, the farther forward you are likely to see."
There are two U.S. History offerings in Belt which are very similar with a couple exceptions. Both course meet Belt High and Montana O.P.I. U.S. History requirements. In General U.S. History, students complete the regular course curriculum in alignment with Montana O.P.I. standards. They also complete some basic research assignment with the goal of building academic skills.
The other option is Advanced Placement U.S. History. This course is designed to emulate a college level class which requires additional reading and also can earn a Belt High honors credit. The biggest difference with A.P. is that each student is required to take a nationally administered exam at the end of the school. This demanding test can also result in the student receiving college credit (college credit depends on the test score, the college of choice, and the major pursued).
