Belt History Department
Montana/Belt History
The 2nd Semester 7th graders study the history of the great state of Montana. We begin in the Dog Days prior to European contact with the plains tribesmen and continue through to modern Montana. The largest share of time is spent on the 19th Century.
A portion of that study examines the foundations and evolution of Belt, analyzing the transition of the town from a booming coal mining camp to its current status as a Great Plains town surviving quite nicely in world that is discarding much of "small town" America.
One other component of this course is a student created family history. Kids conduct a study into their own past and produce unique projects to demonstrate their learning.
